Hout Bay and other local beaches: The beach spans from the beginning of Chapman’s Peak Drive following the curve of the bay to the picturesque Hout Bay Harbour. The beach is great for walking and sunbathing and the waves are usually fairly gentle for swimming making it great for children. The beach is a very popular launching spot for sea kayaks and when the wind blows, sunbathers can shelter next to the dunes and still enjoy a spectacular view of the bay, where dolphins and whales are a common sight. Just ten minutes from Hout Bay you will find Llundudno beach and the legendary Sandy Bay. A short drive on is Camps Bay that has a broad stretch of palm tree-lined white sand bordering the bracing waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Set at the foot of a spectacular series of mountain peaks, the Twelve Apostles, yet only 10 minutes from the city centre by car, another of Cape Town's most popular beaches. This is not a sheltered beach, so if the wind is blowing it is advisable to head for Clifton, another breath taking and more secluded beach just around the corner. The beachside road has a festive atmosphere with a good variety of cafes and restaurants offering great sea views.
